Christmas!

Hi!

Wow, I can’t believe it is almost Christmas. Christmas is where a very special baby boy was born! Here is the story…

About two thousand years ago, in the town of Nazareth, there lived a young woman named Mary. She was engaged to be married to Joseph, a carpenter. One day an angel appeared before her and told her she had been chosen to have a special baby. The baby would be God’s son and she must call him Jesus. S

oon after the angel’s visit, Mary and Joseph were married. Mary was due to have her baby when they were told they had to go on a long journey to Bethlehem, which was where Joseph came from. This was because they had to pay a special tax. Mary had to ride on a donkey for a few days over the hills of Gallilee.

At last Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem. It was crowded with other people who needed to pay their taxes. Mary was very tired and needed a place to stay. At each inn, the story was the same. There was no room for them. Eventually, one kind innkeeper said he had a stable where he kept his animals. They were welcome to stay there.

And so it was that a few hours later, Mary gave birth to her son in that stable. She wrapped Jesus in strips of cloth and laid Him in a manger full of hay.

At the same time, on a hillside overlooking Bethlehem, some shepherds were watching over their sheep. A bright light appeared in the sky. They were very afraid. It was an angel sent by God. The angel told them not to be afraid, because he had some good news. He said the Son of God had been born and they would find Him in Bethlehem.

The shepherds wanted to go and see the baby. When they arrived at the stable, they were filled with joy at seeing Jesus lying in the manger. They knelt down and worshipped Him. They told Mary and Joseph how the angel had appeared in the sky and told them that Jesus was to be the Saviour of the world.

Far away in the East, Wise Men saw a new star shining high in the sky. These men studied the stars and they knew this was a very special star. They studied their scrolls where it said that whenever a bright new star appeared it meant that a great ruler had been born.

The Wise Men decided to find this new ruler. They went to Jerusalem to see King Herod, as they thought the baby would be in the palace. They asked to see the child that would be King of the Jews. The king was troubled. He thought this new king may take away his throne. He told them to return when they had found the baby so that he could worship the child himself.
The Wise Men set off to find the baby. They were guided by the star to the stable in Bethlehem. Here they knelt down and worshipped Jesus. They gave him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. That night, the men had the same dream where an angel warned them that King Herod wanted to kill Jesus and told them not to go back to his palace.

The Wise Men went back to their own country without calling to see Herod. Soon after Joseph had a dream where an angel told him to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt as King Herod had ordered that Jesus be killed. They left Bethlehem right away. When the wise men did not return, Herod ordered that baby boys in Bethlehem be killed. They did not find Jesus as he was safe.

Evaluating The Student Blogging Challenge…

0

Posted by dawso | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on November 29, 2011

Hi Everyone!

Well for the final challenge of the Student Blogging Challenge I am evaluating the whole challenge. Here are some questions I have been asked. This is activity one (Just letting you know!).

Registration: Is two weeks early enough for registration to begin before the first challenge?

Yes, I think so. We could maybe encourage class blogs to let everyone know that registration has begun. Our teachers let us know so that we could register, and we got it down pretty quickly. So yes, I think that it is.

Subscription: Did you subscribe by RSS or email in order to get the posts as soon as they were published?

Well, I actually tried to subscribe twice, by email, and neither times did it work. I am not sure why, but we never got emails telling us that new posts where out. I just visited regularly to see when a post had been published. So, no I didn’t, but I did try to.

Student and class participants: How useful are these pages in the header of the blogging challenge?

They are VERY useful. You can see everyone that is doing the challenge. I think that some should be deleted if they are not being active in the challenge. It was useful where they came from, how old they were and especially what they enjoyed doing. It gave you blogs to visit that are similar with your interests so that you could read about things that interest you.

The challenges:

  • Did you visit the actual challenge on the blog each week or did your teacher have a post on your class blog?

I did visit the blog each week as the posts where published. My teacher did not put it up on her blog, but she did warn us for the first 2-3 challenges.

  • Which challenges were the most useful?

I think that the challenges that where useful where the ‘Are You Connecting?’ was good because we really could reconsider whether we were or weren’t really connecting to people apart from our friends. The creativity post was really fun! I enjoyed being myself (Although, I always am on my blog.). Definitely  the ‘Improving Your Posts’ challenge. That has really helped with our image attributions. ‘Me On The Internet’, I already knew most things, but revising it can never hurt. ‘My Place’ and ‘All About You’ were really fun.

  • Which challenges were the most interesting?

Probably most of the ones that I have mentioned above.

  • What would be some other topics you would like included in future challenges?

Possibly more on Web2+ tools. I didn’t really get that bit. Also more on photo attributions. I would like to encourage proper post writing with descent posts. Following the rules.

  • Are more tutorial type challenges needed? eg how to make a link in your post

Yes, I think so, but more on things that are more challenging.

  • Were the ‘Visit these’ posts useful?

Sorry, but no, not really.

  • Were the challenges where you had to embed ie polls, cartoons, wallwisher etc interesting or could you not embed due to being a free Edublogs blog or a blogging platform that didn’t allow embedding?

I could embed because we are premium, and yes, they were very fun.

  • Were there enough chances to visit blogs from overseas and make links with other students/classes?

No, I don’t think that there where. I think that there should be a few more.

  • Classes that registered – were there enough activities specific to classes?

I wasn’t a class blog, so sorry, I can’t answer that.

  • Did you make global connections?

I think I did.

  • Anything else you would like to mention about the challenge in particular

I think that it is important Miss W. is thanked for her amazing work and never giving up! Thank you so much Miss W. I would love to do it again next year! But for now… Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

P.S. I might not be writing as much as I will be winding down for the end of the year and getting ready for Christmas. I will be going on Summer holidays on Tuesday!

Basketball!

Posted by dawso | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on November 25, 2011

Hi!

Well, one of my favourite sports is Basketball! Basketball is a great sport because you have to think and act quickly. There is lots of running involved so it keeps you fit at the same time. It is a team sport so you need to make sensible decisions, like who to pass to, or weather to dribble it or not. It isn’t an easy game, which is why it is so good. You can improve on it each and every day! As people like to say Practice Makes Perfect (Which reminds me, I should practice my trumpet today!).

I play basketball every Friday afternoon. In term 1,2 and 3, I did I clinic with a coach called Mr Bresnik. He is an awesome coach and he taught us so much! Although this term we have been playing a competition. We have been playing against another school. There are four teams. There are 2 teams from my school and two teams from theres! We get out of school, start training and play a game! It is really fun.

At our first game the score was 40-7, or something like that. We only won one game, which was agains the other team from my school. Our scores started to improve more and more. We didn’t win one game, but we had fun and enjoyed every minuet! Last night showed that we have improved so much! The score was 21-22. Unfortunately we still lost, but as I said before we had fun and enjoyed every minuet!

I am very sad to say that there is no more basketball this year, as our little season is over. It is very sad. :( Next year I want to play again. DEFINITELY! I only started learning about it this year, and it is a sport that will continue on!!!

Hi!

Well there is a post on Year5rc. Take a look and see what I responded by! Here is my response:

Well… what  a big responsibility… being the teacher! As Angie has said, I would like to give the teachers a MASSIVE thank-you as this year has been fantastic! I have enjoyed blogging soooooooo much, and I have loved everything we have learnt. I have also enjoyed all of the new girls and the fantastic teachers! Thank you so much for making this year so enjoyable!

So, if you were the teacher what would you change?

I would change how long we are in year 5 for! I would make it last HEAPS longer! I would have more HSIE and Novel Study time! I agree with Colette.. We should be able to take our laptops home! I would also do more drama!!! I would like to change desks more frequently to learn more!

What would you add and what would you take away?

Well, as I said, I would add more drama. I would also add more morning and afternoon help classes where you could come along if you were struggling! I would take away the Global connections unit as Liana has said, because I didn’t learn very much!

What did I enjoy and what did I dislike:

Well I loved HSIE and Novel Study with the choose your own activities! I found that that was a great way to be independent and use our time well! I didn’t really like the Bush Ballads!

We should have more drama and Novel Study! Other than that there has been a great balance of different things to learn about!

THANKS!

  • click on a blog on the student list – count one
  • now click on a blog from their blogroll – count two
  • finally click on a blog from that blogroll – count three

Leave a comment on an interesting post at this blog.

Do this activity at least three times! So this is my first go! I went to Carters Blog first. I commented on his post If I Could Learn Anything In The World It Would Be…

Here is what I said!

Hi Carter,
Well, I don’t really think that pick-pocketing is a good thing to learn! It is well, kinda against the law! IT would be really funny to joke around with your family and friends though! :) I think that it would be really fun to learn how to be a spy! I think that it would be really cool! You would learn tips and tricks about everything, you could have cool gadgets and you could even have undercover clothes! I think that it would be awesome!

Your blog is really cool! I live in Australia, where do you live? You can visit my blog at…

Hi Everyone!

This week has been a very busy week at my school! We have been practising and rehearsing a musical called “Jonah-Man Jazz!” It is all about the story of Jonah and The Whale except in a modern and funky version. If you didn’t know what the story was here it is:

One day God was talking to Jonah who is a prophet of God. He said: Jonah, you must go to the city of Ninevah and tell them to change there ways. They must obey me.

But Jonah was scared! He was so scared he ran away. He went to a ship and said ‘I need a boat that is sailing today.’ So Jonah hoped on the ship. But in the middle of the sea there was a BIG storm. The wind roared and the thunder crashed, the waves grew and grew! They decided to throw Jonah off the boat because of all of the trouble he was causing, and magically it all stopped.

Jonah sank into the sea when a whale ate him! Jonah prayed to God and apologised for running away from God. The whale spat him out and he was back on land. Jonah then went straight to the city of Ninevah to tell the people to change there ways and they did!

It was very fun and I really enjoyed it. I had a few lines!  My mum said that the show was amazing and I think it was too!

Also this week I went to the TAS fashion show! It was great. Girls in year 8 had to make a pair of pyjamas, girls in year 9 had to make clothes for children under 10 and a summer dress in the 60′s and 70′s theme, year 10 had to make a fractured fairytale inspired dress, year 11 had to make clothes inspired by nature and year 12 showed there major works. It was a great evening and all girls worked hard in both events!
